Importance

How important is it to be important? How much importance do we put on that? Why do we care if people approve of us—admire us? What’s the point? Why do their opinions matter?

It’s because WE place too much importance on it. We LET what others say and think change us, modify us, dissuade us. What they say BECOMES us. But that’s not right. Because it’s not about them. What we do, we should do for ourselves. Want to be a famous singer? That’s great—go for it! But don’t do it because you want the admiration—the fame. Do it because you LOVE it. Do it because you’re PROUD of YOURSELF for it.

To add one more, somewhat unrelated, thing, I was at a Spanish Honors Society induction where we had this judge as a speaker. And his main point was that, our accomplishments and successes are because of US. We control what happens to us and we are responsible for our successes.

So anyway, what’s really important? Following your passion. Achieving what you’ve dreamed. And feeling that amazing self-confidence because of your achievement. Or being known, but feeling no pleasure. Being loved, but not loving yourself, what you do. Maybe it’s different for everyone—but the answer is clear for me.

YOUR Challenge—Remember when I asked you about your passion? Well, today your challenge is to go DO that. And make yourself proud. Keep your product a secret or share it here, or with the world. Whatever feels right. Don’t do it for them, or me, do it for you.
