Getting On That Study Grind

12 de mayo
Today was an extremely long day of class, but it was daily interesting. This program is technically called a Language, Business, and Technology program, and so our classes are about the business world in Mexico as well as the culture and history of the country. And of course, they're all in Spanish.
It has been interesting to compare and contrast the business worlds and professional cultures of Mexico and the United States. There are many things that are common practices in Mexico that would be highly frowned upon or even illegal in the United States. For example, in Mexico, your age, marriage status, number of children, and religion are common standards on a resume.
After class we went to El Tuscon for lunch, which was a really small restaurant a few blocks away. Bet ya can't guess what I ate! Yup, frijoles y queso. I'm pretty sure I'll never be able to eat cheese again when I return to the states.
Our excursion for the afternoon was a visit to the same guide who showed us around Teotihuacan on Sunday. He has spent many years traveling and studying, and today we talked about the Nahuatl language--different characters, words, numbers, and arithmetic.
Finally, after basically eight hours of classes we made it back to our homes to work on projects and study for our expected daily quizzes. Today was definitely a contrast to the low-key, stress-free, peaceful environment that surrounds us in Colonia Roma.

There haven't really been any posts this week because there really hasn't been much to blog about. We've had very long days of class every day this week, but also took a trip to the market and watched this movie called Santo Luzbel for an assignment. It was interesting, to say the least.
Food wise, we tried this pizza place (Pizzabrosa) right next to the school which was amazing, and also found this pretty cheap place by the school which was great. I had this delicious fish taco one day:

And we also visited this icecream shop which had paletas (Popsicles). Totally hit the spot on a hot day. I had strawberry and Kaitlyn got mango with chili-definitely an acquired taste.
This week was also consumed by an essay and our first test--reminding us all that study abroad does indeed mean you have to study at some point. But hey, I definitely think I take studying in the cute "cafelibreria" over the CULC Starbucks any day.
