Quesadillas Por Dias
Today, Kanchi and I began our day with quesadillas for breakfast--which was unsurprisingly awesome and delicious. After breakfast, we made our way to la Universidad with our host to meet up with the rest of the class where we had a relatively brief orientation on Mexico and the city. After the orientation, we visited El Museo de la Antropología. The museum was very large and incredibly beautiful. After half an hour or so of independent exploring, we met up in the courtyard of the museum for a guided tour. As we waited on the benches, many of us felt an odd swaying movement. Soon after, the sirens sounded and we realized it was a terremoto (earthquake--which ended up being a 6.4)! Once the tremors were over and it was deemed safe, we went on our [very long] tour. Finally, at two o'clock everyone was starving for lunch and so we went to this well-known quesidilla shop. All I can say is actual Mexican food is absolutely nothing like what we call Mexican food in the US. Take a look for yourself:
After lunch, we went on el Turibus (which was a double-decker bus like those in the UK) and drove around Condesa which seems to be the more happening of the neighborhoods we're in. We saw some beautiful buildings like El Palacio de Bellas Artes and drove by the Zoológico:
But for some reason, my favorite picture from the Turibus would have to be this:
After the bus tour we took a frozen yogurt and coffee break and walked back towards la universidad and our host families' homes. Of course I have to include everything food related, so you should know that Kanchi and I had a delicious toasted bread with bean spread and cheese (essentially a pizza) for dinner. Now it's time to prepare for our first official day of classes tomorrow morning. But we have the afternoon off so we'll definitely be exploring. I can't believe we've only been here for one day--it feels like so much more!
